Comadre
Comadre is a DIY punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area. To be honest, we didn't have any grand scheme or plan in mind when we started the band in 2004. It was as simple as: our members' previous bands broke up and we knew each other from playing shows together in those previous bands, so we got together to continue making music. At the time, the general consensus between the members was, “We just wanna sound like Orchid.” Fortunately, our musical aspirations have developed significantly in the last six years, and now every one is more or less on the level of, “We just wanna sound like Refused.”Being a DIY band simply means that we have control issues. In the six years that we have been a band, we have accomplished some crazy shit—including 5 releases on multiple formats (CDs, cassettes, DVDs, records of various sizes) and several international tours—without the help of record companies, managers, booking agents, contracts, and the like. But to be fair, a lot of what we have done has not been done literally “on our own.” The important thing to recognize is that we function by networking with kids who actively participate in local punk communities and by working with good friends who run small DIY operations similar to our own. We are in it for the art, the adventure, and the friendships. We are motivated by the people who express interest and appreciation in the art and the process.
Throughout the course of our discography, our little label—Bloodtown Records—has shared releases with friends’ labels such as Cosmic Note (Japan), Adagio830 (Germany), React With Protest (Germany), Pure Minds (Malaysia), and others. It was almost immediately obvious that Paper + Plastick—the biggest “name” these kids have ever worked with—was just as much (if not, more so) understanding and appreciative of what we are trying to do. So one year after its original release date, the folks at P+P are making the repress of “A Wolf Ticket” possible—and in a brand new format, no less. Rock it, don’t stop it.
